1. Setting up
DV/HDV Camcorder Support
- Make sure the IEEE-1394 (or named FireWire card) interface
card is properly installed. (Please refer to your IEEE-1394 interface card
manual for details on installation).
- Connect your DV/HDV camcorder to the
FireWire card using the IEEE-1394 cable provided along with your DV/HDV camcorder. Turn on the power of DV/HDV camcorder by switching
to either VTR or Camera (depending on the camera model) mode
before launching Ulead BD DiscRecorder.
- Verify if Ulead BD DiscRecorder has detected
your DV/HDV hardware by clicking
Capture Settings and checking if the name of the DV/HDV camcorder is listed and selected in the Settings menu.
- Capture videos in the Capture Video dialog box.
2. Tips and Hints for DV/HDV
- If you find that many frames were dropped during DV
capture, please check if system requirements are met. The hard drive may
need to be defragmented as well.
- Some DV/HDV camcorders have
the power saving function that shuts down the power automatically when the
camera is idle for a period of time. Please turn off this function when
capturing from your DV/HDV camcorder to the
computer.
- BD DiscRecorder does
not delete captured video files automatically when you close the application.
You are advised to clean up your working folder regularly. Remember: Do not delete video
files used in your projects or they will fail to load the next time you
open your project files.
3. Installing Drivers and Applications
- Microsoft DirectX -
A driver from Microsoft that improves playback performance of video files.
You should install this driver. It will be installed automatically when
you are installing Ulead BD DiscRecorder.
For more information, visit Microsoft's Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/directx.
- Microsoft Windows Media Formats - Drivers from
Microsoft that allow you to create WMV streaming video files. They will
be installed automatically when you are installing Ulead BD DiscRecorder. For more information, visit
Microsoft's Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader - This is used for viewing
the electronic manual. It is recommended that you install this software.
5. Troubleshooting
- If
you experience difficulty getting started, refer to the online help or the
manual for instructions.
- If Straight to Disc mode fails to format
a Blu-ray disc recorded by another application, please try to format it
in Project Mode.
- Most HDV camcorders
support DV or HDV mode such as the Sony HDR-HC1. If the capture stops, it
is probably due to the tape having videos in both the HDV and DV formats.
When this happens, turn off then turn on the camcorder. Windows will recognize
the camcorder in the proper mode. Once Windows recognizes the camcorder,
Ulead BD DiscRecorder will also recognize the
new mode correctly.
- Dolby Digital 5.1-channel
audio encoder only works with a 4-channel audio track in Ulead BD DiscRecorder.
If your camcorder only supports 2-channel audio tracks, select the same
channels when the audio codec you selected is Dolby Digital in the Capture
Settings.
- You can view the video while
capturing on the Preview Window. The video and audio playback on the Preview
Window may appear/sound choppy. This does not affect the video quality of
the captured video.
- The file system
used by the BDAV format is UDF 2.5 or UDF 2.6. If you want to view the burned BDAV folder structure from
Windows Explorer, you need to install the UDF system driver that supports
the UDF 2.5 and UDF 2.6 file system such as Ulead's Data-Add 2.6. Currently, Microsoft Windows XP or Media Center Edition only supports UDF 2.0.
- Some file systems
may not be able to read the recently recorded contents of your Blu-ray disc
in Windows Explorer. Manually eject the disc after burning.
- If you want to share
and play your videos in the BDAV format on other computers, make sure the
software player supports playing back of BDAV discs. One such player is
InterVideo's WinDVD 7 or above with BD
and HD DVD support.
- In the Capture Video
dialog box, if you cannot see your video in the Preview Window, click Capture
Settings and adjust the settings to meet your capture device's requirements.
- To update the information
for your Operating System, it is recommended to refresh the disc by clicking
Show Disc Details after burning, erasing, or formatting the disc.
- If you have problems
running Ulead BD DiscRecorder, check if your display
adapter driver is up-to-date.
- If you use Cable
Select for your disc burner, enable the DMA settings.
- If your computer
is running on a slow processor, you may experience a lot of dropped frames
when capturing video. The captured video will not play smoothly.
Note: In case BD DiscRecorder crashes
when you close it, the disc you created prior to closing the application
will not be affected and will work perfectly.
6. Burning Discs
- BD-R discs can be
appended if your burner supports Pseudo OverWrite technology. If supported,
the UDF 2.6 file system automatically formats your BD-R disc.
- If burner does not
support Pseudo OverWrite technology, make sure that your hard drive has
enough free space of twice the estimated project size when burning to a
BD-R disc.
